This project involved the replacement of one of three 74 year old pipe lines that supply the Nymboida Hydro Electric Power Station and the Grafton Water Supply. The pipe replaced was 1534mm external diameter, 10mm thick and approximately 1.5 klm long. The pipeline traversed a variety of ground types and, in some sections, very steep terrain. Work commenced in October 2008 and was completed in December 2009.
The project as completed included:
- An environmental assessment of the area to ensure minimal disruption to local flora and fauna,
- A re-design of the pipeline and Penstock supports,
- The creation of a new access track for installation and future maintenance of the pipe line,
- The removal and scrapping of the old pipe,
- Replacement of the Penstock pipe supports, thrust blocks and anchor blocks,
- Construction of a new bridged section with new piers and supports,
- Supply and installation of the new pipe and connection to existing structures,
- Installation of a new flow control valve,
- Restoration works.
